Even though your Invisalign® aligner is strong enough to move your teeth and give you the smile you want, it’s not strong enough to handle poor care and treatment. This means you need to do all you can to keep it in tip-top shape so it can properly shift your smile. To help you keep your aligner clean and pristine, Dr. Justin Karrel has some helpful tips for you.

Our first tip is to rinse your aligner under water when you take it out of the mouth. This will wash away the saliva that can promote bacteria growth and dental issues. To deeply clean the appliance, which should be at least once a day, put it in a cup of water and appliance cleaner, like denture cleaner or the official Invisalign cleaning crystals. Let the aligner soak for the recommended amount of time mentioned on the cleanser package.

Our second tip is to deep-clean your smile before you put the appliance back in your mouth. You can do so by brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste and by flossing with a flossing product that is easy to handle. Cleaning your teeth is important because placing the aligner on a dirty smile means the bacteria will be wedged between your teeth and the aligner all day. This can lead to dental issues.

Our third tip is to rinse your aligner with clear antibacterial soap several times a day. This is an inexpensive way to keep your appliance fresh, clean, and pristine.
